 Christmas Devotions

Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Luke 2: 10

Christmas is good news! That’s the true message of the season and it’s something to cheer about but somewhere along the line, things have gotten complicated. We shouldn’t be carried away with how Christmas has been commercialized that we forget about how really simple it should be. The world shouldn’t tell us how to celebrate Christmas because it’s not about how much we have but how much we can give. It’s about sharing the good news and spreading joy. It’s not a time to be afraid or worry and fret about the things we don’t have or can’t afford. Hey, we’re not counting losses, we are celebrating the events surrounding the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, someone wonderful who was given to us as saviour, counselor and friend. That’s a plus and that’s why it’s good news!

REFLECT:  In what ways can you let go of the rush rush and keep things simple this season?

How to trust God through life’s storms

Jesus was in the back of the boat with his bead on a pillow, and he was asleep. His disciples woke him and said, ” Teacher, don’t you care that we are about to drown?” Mark 4:38 CEV
The Bible (Mark 4: 35 – 41)  recounts the story of how Jesus lay sleeping, soundly and calmly in a boat that was being rocked violently by a crazy storm and was just seconds to sinking. So the frightened disciples ( who wouldn’t be?) ran to wake him; urging him to do something and even suggesting that maybe, just maybe He didn’t care.

When we go through seasons where everything seems so dark and frightening, we try to find our way through even as we wonder (like the disciples did) where God is and if He really does care.

Jesus got up and rebuked the storm, the weather steadied it’s rage, peace was restored and a vital lesson was learned; which is that Jesus does care and also that He is with us when life throws up a storm just as He is when everything is cool and calm.
Here is one of the most loving invitations from God to you; Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you. (1Peter 5:7 KJV).

I love this verse because it reminds me that God wants to be involved in my day to day; everything about my life, absolutely everything matters to Him. His concern for me stretches far beyond the salvation of my soul, He also longs for a close and personal relationship with me. It is an invitation to release all those fears and cares on the altar of  prayer. We pray and we praise even when it’s difficult. We open our hearts to Him in prayer, and allow Him to pour His balm on the pain and the hurts He alone can see. He calls you to trust Him. He is waiting with open arms, saying; ” Give me all your worries, those anxiety filled thoughts that wake you up at night. Give them all to me and I will replace them with faith, peace and victory.”
